What kind of media institution might
distribute your product and why?
Film
distribution is the process of making a movie available for viewing; this can
be done through online download, Television screening, DVD purchase and Cinema
screening. Most of the major media institutions are based in America, such as
Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros and Lionsgate, who produce high concept block
buster films such as The Hunger Games franchise, Gone Girl and Inception.
Despite their thriller genre, they differ vastly from the types of films that
are independently produced by British corporations like The Hole, Snatch and
Brighton Rock. This is usually down to the lack of funding’s Independent
companies receive to produce the films, and usually they relate to the British
niche culture.
Our
Film would be distributed by a British independent media institution, this
would be for a number of reasons. Firstly our set is very obviously situated on
the Norfolk coastline, a niche destination known in England for its wide long
stretch beaches. Other locations such as Attenborough Police station are also
situated in England, this appeals to the British audience because people are
able to relate to those areas and want to see films located there. The British
accent is used fluently throughout, also another indication to the location of
the film. The British audience are drawn to the niche of the British accent as
they also have it.
Our
Film does not involve a high concept plot; it’s crime thrillers, which are very
typical British storylines. They do not involve a lot of action or special
effects, usually more psychologically impacting like The Replacement or Line of
Duty. The little use of CGI and camera effects makes the film qualify less as a
high concept film, and more as an independently produced film.
Finite
Films is a UK film institution which would distribute our media film as they
specialise in drama and thriller productions, this would make them a suitable
independent distributor for ‘Vanished’. They believe in making movies that
“strive for originality and offer an experience,” which is suited to the kind
film we are trying to show to our British audience.
