Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience’s we were aiming to target ranged from any ages 15+. We aimed for a slightly more mature audience, due to the fact that our production consisted of a relatively mature plot in comparison to other thriller/horror films amongst the market today. The parental theme running through the production we deemed to be appealing to adults who are relatively new parents, for this reason, we purposefully selected young actors to play the parts of the parents, as it meant that despite the mature theme we still managed to target the younger ages of the adult spectrum.

As well as the plot being of mature origins, we also aimed at targeting an older audience because it was more likely that this age group will have the money and time to be able to go to the cinema and watch the film. By doing this, it would mean that we would gain more views on our production and as a group we would gain more critical commentary.

We decided that the rating of our film was rightfully a 15+. Although the plot of the production is one of an intense nature, there is little graphic content and therefore didn’t need to restrictive rating of 18+. As a group, we also completed some research on thriller films with a similar sort of content to our own, such as ‘Case 39’, and recognized that they too had an age rating of 15+, which encouraged us to go with the same one. We also reviewed the ‘bbfc’ film classification information, and found that are film fitted eloquently into the 15+ age bracket.

This is an example of members of our target audience watching and giving feedback on our production:
